Selection Guide — Ring Main Unit (RMU)
Step-by-step criteria to choose a 12kV ring main unit — SF6, gas-insulated or solid-insulated.
This guide narrows a 12kV RMU choice from your site condition, not a model number.
Step 1 — Confirm the network
- 12kV cable ring → RMU is the right node
- Need a second source on fault → choose a ring (dual-loop) topology
Step 2 — Pick the insulation type
- Normal indoor room → XGN15-12 SF6 gas-insulated RMU
- Humid / polluted / tight space → SRM-12C fully gas-insulated RMU
- High altitude / cold / heavy pollution → XGN-12 solid-insulated switchgear
Step 3 — Match the rating
- Rated voltage 12kV, rated current 630A
- Breaking: 20kA (breaker) / 50kA (fuse) for XGN15-12; 25kA for SRM-12C and KBS-12
Step 4 — Indoor or outdoor
- Outdoor cable ring → house the RMU in a KBS-12 outdoor cabinet (12kV / 24kV option)
