Selection Guide
Selection Guide — Reactive Power Compensation
How to size a capacitor compensation cabinet (GGJ) for a 130–600 kVA transformer.
This guide sizes LV reactive-power compensation from the transformer and the load power factor.
Step 1 — Read the transformer
GGJ is sized for 130–600 kVA three-phase transformers. The rated capacity range is 1–600 kvar at 0.38–0.66kV, 50Hz.
Step 2 — Estimate required kvar
A practical starting point: compensate to a target power factor (often 0.9–0.95) by adding roughly 20–30% of the transformer kVA as kvar for mixed motor/lighting loads. Confirm with a site measurement.
Step 3 — Choose the mode
- Fixed / general → standard GGJ
- Mixed loads → H (mixed) mode
- Unbalanced phases → F (split-phase) mode
- Fast varying load → D (dynamic) mode
- Outdoor → W (outdoor) mode
Step 4 — Controller
Use an automatic power-factor controller (contactor or thyristor switching) so steps track the load.
See GGJ for the rated values.
