Selection Guide — HV Switchgear
Step-by-step criteria to choose 12kV/35kV switchgear, RMU and substation for your project.
This guide narrows a 12kV/35kV switchgear choice from your requirement, not a model number.
Step 1 — Fix the voltage class
- 12 kV networks → KYN28A-12 withdrawable switchgear or XGN15-12 SF6 RMU
- 35 kV networks → KYN61-40.5 withdrawable switchgear
Step 2 — Choose the structure
- Withdrawable (KYN series): safer breaker maintenance, higher flexibility
- Fixed / RMU (XGN15-12): compact, cost-effective for cable rings
Step 3 — Match the short-circuit rating
Read the network fault level and set rated short-time withstand to 25 kA or 31.5 kA (4s) and breaking capacity accordingly. Underrating the withstand current is a safety risk.
Step 4 — Confirm protection
IP4X for the enclosed switchboard; add ventilation or air-conditioning for dry-type substations.
