European vs American Pad-mounted Substation
The two prefabricated substation forms — European (YB□-12) and American (ZGS13) — and how to pick between them.
A prefabricated substation packs HV switchgear, a transformer and LV switchgear into one weather-proof enclosure, cutting civil works and commissioning time.
European type — YB□-12
Three independent compartments (HV / transformer / LV) with fire separation; natural or forced ventilation. Transformer can be dry (SCB18) or oil (S22-M); capacity 200–1600 kVA. Flexible and serviceable — easy to open each compartment for maintenance.
American type — ZGS13
Fully insulated, fully sealed combined transformer with an oil-immersed S9/S11 unit. Its volume is only 1/3 to 1/5 of a European-type box of the same capacity. HV side uses dual full-range fuses; 200A load current is pluggable. Best where space is tight and maintenance access is minimal.
How to choose
- Need compartment access / dry transformer / larger capacity → YB□-12 (European)
- Space-limited, sealed, low-maintenance → ZGS13 (American)
- Both integrate our HV switchgear (KYN28A-12 or XGN15-12 RMU) on the HV side
